The Royal Ealdormere Moneyers Guild is a group intended for those gentles (new and seasoned) interested in Medieval moneying and currency. The Guild is designed to help facilitate the exchange of techniques, styles, and coinage finds.
The oath of a Moneyer contains these words, “To what ever lands I roam or Lords I serve my craft goes with me“.
The Guild was founded in A.S. 50 in response to the growing interest amongst the artisans of Ealdormere in coinmaking. Starting in A.S., the guild started teaching classes at Fruits of Our Labours.
In A.S. 57, the Charter of the Guild was approved by Roak VII and Hyrrokin II.
The Ministers of the Guild have been, in order:
Novices are those members who have begun the process of becoming a moneyer. They are given a 12-by-12 counting cloth as a symbol of their membership.
Journeymen have, to a satisfactory quality, completed the following requirements: 1) Created a personal moneyer's dye; 2) created 50 coin blanks using some combination of at least two blank making methods; and 3) have been able to strike coins with or without assistance.
They are given a silver coin pin as a symbol of their rank, and are invited to swear the Journeyman's Oath.
Fellows are those members who have demonstrated the ability to teach others the craft without supervision. They are given a gold coin pin as a symbol of their rank, and are invited to swear the Fellow's Oath.
Journeyman’s Oath: To you my Guild brethren I do swear: to uphold the Traditions my Guild treasures; to keep my craft from the forger; to honor my Fellows, confide in my fellow Journeymen and treat well with the Novices; and to whatever lands I roam, or Lords I serve, my craft goes with me.
Fellow’s Oath: By my works with hammer and silver, I take the oath of a Fellow. I swear to uphold the Guild and its Traditions, and to keep the secrets of my craft from the forger; to honor my Fellows and Journeymen; and to teach the Novices well; and to whatever lands I roam, or Lords I serve, my craft goes with me.
