Beathán MacFinnon

Persona

The Honourable Lord Beathán MacFinnon (he/him) is a 14th-century Scottish judge of weights and measures on the council of Finlaggan.

His motto is ‘l’espée au fourrel blesse quand mesme’.

He was born in 1345, on his father’s estate near Portree. His father was a Thane on the Council of Finlaggan. The Abbott of Iona was good friends with his father and welcomed Beathán to study at the monastery. In the late 1360s, he was sent to University in France.

Upon his return to Portree, he was sent to Duntulm Castle to take his father’s seat on the Council. There he met Lady Morgann Fraoch. They married in 1374, and lived together in the Shire of Trinovantia Nova. In 1379 they created their own estate of Sunny Knoll in the Canton der Welfengau, where they have welcomed their daughters, Charlotte and Anne.

Beathán currently resides at Sunny Knoll, in the Canton Der Welfengau, in the Barony of Ramshaven.

  • Badge: (Fieldless) A sword in its scabbard inverted gules hilted sable sustained by a sinister fist fesswise argent.
  • Badge: (Fieldless) A serpent in annulo vorant of its own tail argent enfiled by a wand vert.

SCA History

Beathán joined the SCA in 2008 in the shire of Trinovantia Nova.

He moved to the Canton der Welfengau in 2012.

Beathán is married to Lady Isobel of Fraoch Eilean. Together, they have two children: Charlotte and Anne of Sunny Knoll.

He became Meister Albrecht Stampfer‘s fencing student at Wassail, AS LIV (2019).
