Yael bat Shilo mibeit haMaayan

Persona

Rebbah Yael bat Shilo mibeit haMaayan is a Jewish woman living the in the mid-15th century. Yael's family is from Northern France, but fled to Provence during her childhood due to expulsions of the Jews in various areas of Europe.

Yael is an active researcher, knitter, candlemaker, and sewer, depending on rules set by the monarchy at the time. Yael likes to join in occasional singing, and watching others dance. She's working on learning embroidery, on doing different types of small weaving, and loves watching others do their handiwork as well.

Like most Jews of the time, she is literate in both Hebrew and French, and is good with numbers. She is occassionally addressed by her French name, Ysabel Hudon.

Recognizing that Hebrew names can be difficult to pronounce, here is a guide on how to say Yael's full name: Reb-Ah Yeah-el Bat She-low Me-Bait ha!-Mah-Ah-Yan

Whereabouts

Yael currently resides in the Canton of Caldrithig, in the Barony of Skraeling Althing.

SCA History

Ysabel joined the SCA in the Fall of 2023, attending her first feast in November: the Feast of the Hare. She participated in a largesse tournament held at this event, and was surprised to win third place.

Yael is apprenticed to Magister Xandra Rozina Xiberras Galea, called Rozi or Rigel.

Interests

Ysabel's interests focus mainly on research (feminist centred), fibre arts, and she's busily working her way through several new crafts. She's done several types of weaving, made ink, made beeswax candles, some calligraphy, several types of cord-making, and is learning to knit. She would love to eventually learn to weave or knit tapestries, but is deciding on medium.

She likes to learn about others' A&S skills, and can often be found sitting next to people with an unfamiliar fibre art form, working on her own research, or planning something A&S related.
