Born 1169 CE in Guildeford (Guildford), England, Lady Rohais de Guildeford (pronounced "Rose") was the only child of Thomas, a wealthy cloth merchant, and Mathilde. She married an impoverished nobleman, who promptly went on Crusade to Palastine and was never heard from again. She lived a happy life from the proceeds from her father’s business, which she inherited, and by her work as an embroiderer.
