Following the deaths of her mother and all but one of her siblings during the Black Death, May found herself in the unique position of being indulged by her bookish father, learning to read and write beyond the talents of the majority of her peers. She learned most of what she knows about fine sewing, household management, and the more courtly arts of dance and music while fostered in the household of one of her father's cousins.

+Member of the Honourable Company of Creatively Anachronistic Players: active 2023-2025, this group of SCA and adjacent members from Ealdormere and beyond adapted, rehearsed, and two of the York Cycle plays, The Magi and Herod/the nativity, and the Second Trial before Pilate, then performed them as part of UofT’s York Cycle performance project in June 2025. The group achieved their goal of looking like they walked out of a medieval painting.
