+  * **Music in Unexpected Places: Music Notation as Visual Puzzle and Embodied Instruction:** Come explore a collection of medieval and renaissance examples where music is more than it seems, and never what you expect. We'll uncover how music theory and solfege were hidden inside sacred hymns and secular tunes, then move on to the Guidonian hand where pitches lived on your fingertips. We'll dip into "eye music" where scores could be shaped as hearts, circles, harps, and triangles, and the shapes carried specific meanings tied to the music. We'll encounter compositions embedded in Renaissance paintings, from the devotional, through the bawdy, to the mysterious and unknowable. And of course we can't ignore dance manuscripts where music and dance instruction are intertwined. Finally we'll touch on puzzle canons and musical cryptograms, intellectual challenges used to impress patrons and test fellow composers. Theory and notation expertise not required, just curiosity about how sound becomes visible, and how bodies become scores.

   * **12th-16thC Drinking Songs:** There are more drinking songs suited to our campfires and feast halls than many can even dream of. Human nature hasn't fundamentally changed, people have been sharing drink and song for centuries. We'll belt out drinking songs in five languages, spanning multiple centuries, from sources ranging from the Carmina Burana to Ravenscroft.
